A Soul, Who Has Strived

I have learned that only way you are going to get anywhere in life is through hard work. Whether you are a journalist, a writer, a politician or a philosopher, there is no shortcut to success but hard work. “If you do, you will win, if not, you will not”. These unparallel words were said by Mr Farooq Moin, one of the senior journalists of Pakistan.

There are few, who specialise covering reports of politics, diplomacy, defense, anti-terrorism, constitution, elections, parliament, economics, business, sports, crime.  Hence, Farooq Moin is one of them.

He was born on 16 May, 1946. He received his early education at Presentation Convent School and St. Mary's Cambridge High School, Rawalpindi. However, he did his Masters in Political Science from University of Karachi.

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard to achieve it and Farooq Moin is one of those people who worked hard to achieve his goals.

He was freelancer before working with a news agency, Pakistan Press International (PPI) in 1969, later Joined PPI in February 1970 at its head office at Karachi and worked as Senior Reporter, Chief Reporter, Bureau Chief and Chief News Editor in Karachi and Islamabad.

This man put his life at risk and covered several incidents which could even have taken his life. One of such incidents was the Murree-Bugti Tribal Clash Operation where he was traveling by road and some Baloch militants opened fire on his team, but he fulfilled his responsibility very bravely.

However, his hard work and dedication towards his work brought out positive results and he was posted as PPI Special Correspondent at London from July 1978 to August 1981.

Later, he was promoted as editor PPI news agency in January 1998. He served at this position from January 1998 to September 1999 in Islamabad and again, he was promoted as Chief Editor PPI news agency in August 2008.

Currently he is working at PPI Karachi.

Mr Farooq Moin has also interviewed heads of political parties on different Pakistani T.V channels and has covered general elections in the years 1970, 1977, 1985, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002 and 2008.

To cover international conferences and summits, he has traveled with many governing heads of Pakistan, government and high level delegations on official visits around the world. These include the United States, China, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, India, Middle East, Africa and many European countries.

Farooq Moin is undoubtedly a man of rectitude and true example for the budding journalists.
