From Chairman's Desk

It is indeed a great moment for me to lead one of the prestigious Department university of sindh. It is really an honor for me that I have been appointed as chairman, where I studied and later started my career as a lecturer.

Media has been recognized as a critical component of human development worldwide. It provides not only the high level communication skills necessary for every field but also dissemination of information and using this information for the benefit of common people. It is also important to understand world view.

Today's world is of increasing importance of knowledge as a main drive, of growth and the information and communication revolution. Knowledge accumulation and application have become major factors in economic development and remain increasingly at the core of any country's competitive advantage in the global economy.

This department was established in 1977 as a Department of Journalism in Arts Faculty Building with small accommodation. Later this department got new building in 2006 it was renamed as Department of Mass communication in 1986 and later in 2013 it was renamed as Media and Communication studies.

Presently it is offering four year BS programme and Masters as well as M.Phil programmes in Media and Communication studies.

Recently five new courses Creative Writing, Social Media, Peace Journalism, Media & Human Rights and Media Psychology have been introduced.

After taking charge as chairman I am striving hard for linkage between media industry and also exposure visits of students to improve their professional skills.

With the help and support of the dedicated faculty, talented students & competent staff, Media and Communication Studies department is striving hard for achieving many milestones in near future. I am confident that with the commitment of my colleagues and prayers of our well-wishers this department will become paragon of excellence by departments in the country.

The Department of Media and Communication Studies is keen to do more to actively involve the students in practical work and writing skills. That is why we have been publishing two laboratory publications – weekly ROSHNI and monthly magazine SHAOOR – to ensure that the students may have a greater practical experience of media working and writings.

As with the passage of time, media is changing its face and online journalism is becoming more popular, therefore, it was need of the hour that practical work should be imparted to students about website.

Weekly issues of Roshni, write ups of students on different genres of media writings, photo gallery and some useful links for theoretical studies and practical work will help students to enhance their performance in the field of media.

I believe this website would prove to be a useful tool and help in the practical work which will give more opportunities to the students of media and communication Studies.

This site becomes possible due to sincere efforts of senior journalists and our faculty member Mr. Sohail Sangi along with the students of BS part-III and M.A Previous.

I hope students of Media and communication would take benefit from this website.
